What Does the County Prosecutor Do?

Updated: Dec 16, 2025

The Prosecuting Attorney of Jefferson County is responsible for prosecuting all violations of state law, both felonies and misdemeanors. The Prosecuting Attorney's Office serves as legal counsel to various county offices and agencies and to represent those officials in court. The Prosecuting Attorney's Office handles all abuse and neglect as well as juvenile matters. One of the least known aspects of the job is overseeing the Jefferson County Victim's Assistance Program. This program was created to assist victims of crime, in effort to ensure they are afforded fair and compassionate treatment throughout the judicial system process and protected from further victimization. Each of these roles requires an experienced Prosecutor whose focus is on doing justice and protecting the community.
